Job description

Maxar is seeking a Data Scientist to work in an agile and fast paced customer environment supporting users whose mission is to solve unique and challenging problems in support of national security. Our customers have some of the most interesting needs and hardest challenges to resolve. Our solutions require integrated models based on large and varied datasets, feeding analytic applications so that we can extract patterns and behaviors obscured within the data to augment the capabilities of human operators. We need an experienced data scientist to work on all stages of the data science pipeline, to include applying existing machine learning software across large hyperparameter trade spaces, developing new machine learning algorithms and evaluating opportunities within that AI/ML industry that can enhance our workflow.

Note: US citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph are mandatory for this position and required for consideration.

Location: Springfield, VA

Principal Responsibilities:

Develop complex tools using a variety of scripting languages that address real world user requirements; writes and debug custom code and create user documentation.Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and articulate technical concepts and ideas effectively.Develop, deploy, and maintain automatic target recognition (ATR) algorithms.Research various model architectures for operational applicationExecute data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) tasks for various imagery datatypes to include panchromatic (PAN), multispectral (MSI) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data types.Participate in team briefings to government clients, industry partners, and internal Maxar teams.Minimum Qualifications:

Must be US Citizen.Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI PolygraphB.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography or related field2+ years of experience as a professional data scientist2+ years of experience with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)Experience with Linux command line tools.Experience with neural network and deep learning algorithms.Experience with deep learning tech such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.Experience with version control technologies such as Git, GitLab, etc.Capability to work effectively in a geographically distributed development team.Willing to travel to Herndon, VA and Springfield, VA for on-site SCIF work.Desired Qualifications:

M.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography or related field.3+ years of experience as a professional data scientist.2+ years of experience solving image science and/or geospatial problems for commercial or government clients.Experience working on data science or image science problems that require subject matter expertise in remote sensing, government collection platforms and image datasets, panchromatic imagery (PAN), multispectral imagery (MSI), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery.Experience working with MSI and SAR data.Experience with Python s geospatial libraries, such as gdal, geopandas, shapely, etc.Experience using Docker for packaging and delivering data science capabilities.Experience with cloud-based AI/ML platforms such as SageMaker, IBM Watson Studio, etc.Knowledge of deep learning algorithms for image science, such as YOLO, SSD, DetectNet, etc.#cjpost

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$108,000.00 - $180,000.00 annually.Maxar employees must follow all applicable Maxar policies and COVID-19 requirements as well as those of Maxar customers and third parties.
