Staff Accountant

Job description

This s a short-term position from May 1 to September 30 2024. It is hybrid requiring a few days per week in Washington DC office. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position. This is a temp to hire position.

About the Program:

In this role, you will fulfill the assigned responsibilities of the Accounting department. As part of the WRI Global Operations team, you will contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help WRI to be fully compliant and knowledgeable about our financial condition.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Subsidiary Accounting Manager, you will assist with daily accounting operations including data entry, expense review, timesheets, revenue, reconciliations and other administrative and communication activities as requested. You will be supported by a collaborative team of 15 staff in the Accounting Department.

What will you do:

Daily Accounting Tasks (40%):

  • Set up project codes
  • Set up employee profiles and timesheet accounts
  • Review Concur expense reports
  • Prepare required reports and analysis as requested


Month-end Closing (20%):

  • Process timesheets and labour adjustments
  • Process accounting entries and corrections
  • Process IWO and compute revenue for subsidiary offices
  • Review FSRs and follow up with relevant staff on project related issues


Account Reconciliations and Audit (40%):

  • Complete all balance sheet account reconciliations and process necessary adjustments
  • Provide supports for regular and special audits as requested
  • Assist in preparing IO audit reports summarizing the findings and recommendations for improvement to be presented to management and stakeholders


What will you need:

  • Education: You have completed a bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA preferred
  • Experience: You have minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably with non-profit organizations
  • Experience working with large spreadsheet data using high-level excel formulas required
  • Experience reconciling balance sheet accounts required
  • Knowledge of U.S.GAAP required
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet monthly deadlines
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Languages: Verbal and written English proficiency
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization


Potential Salary: Salary range is between 69,000 and 73,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors. WRI offers a competitive renumeration and benefits package.
