Performs general repair and maintenance of architectural and structural systems in county buildings. Items such as doors, windows, floors, walls ceiling stairs, office furniture, shelving, roof repairs and other related work. Safely operates, cleans, maintains and stores a variety of stationary and hand tools, inspects facilities to identify architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing deficiencies, also conducts building safety inspections. Prepares work requests for all necessary architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs and maintenance, coordinates with facility users to correct deficiencies in building systems. Incumbent is considered essential personnel. Flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back, and on-call.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program in a specific trade with one year of experience performing building maintenance, repair and/or construction work independently, or two years of varied and responsible full performance-level experience in building maintenance, repair or construction trades.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid motor vehicle driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment physical to the satisfaction of the employer.

This position is considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years building maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical and HVAC

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 feet. Must be able to lift up and carry up to 75 pounds with assistance of dolly, lift or staff. Must be able to stoop, bend and work in tiring/uncomfortable conditions for extended periods of time. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include exercise.
