Job description

Overview:

The Senior Vice President, Maritime Engineering, is directly responsible for growth, operations, and financial performance of the Maritime Engineering Business Area within the Defense Engineering & Sustainment (DES) Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The SVP will oversee the identification, qualification, bidding, winning, execution, and financial success of the Business Area, with a focus on the Naval Sea Systems Command and Affiliated Program Executive Offices. The SVP directly manages all Business Area operations in support of SBU goals and objectives as a member of the DES SBU Leadership Team.



Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Complete ownership of the Business Areas operational successes and shortcomings.
  • Strong command of every program and item contributing to profits or expenses, taking final responsibility for any profits or losses.
  • Communicate P & L actualities and ensure Division leadership is invested in positively influencing the organizations financial health, focused on revenue and profit/return on sales.
  • Develop financial and workforce staffing forecasts for annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting.
  • Conduct comprehensive monthly program business reviews.
  • Work across line and indirect organizations to identify opportunities for improving quality, efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Source new ideas from all levels in the organization, as well as from external advisers or consultants.
  • Clearly communicate achievements and shortcomings, attributing success to those involved.
  • Keep management apprised of customer and competitor environments.
  • Promote and oversee compliance with all corporate operational policies and standards.

Growth

  • Actively contribute to defining and Implementing vision and strategic roadmap to support a transformational and growth-oriented organization.
  • Identify and understand federal government customer requirements and resulting business opportunities.
  • Identify and manage key partner relationships from routine to complex arrangements; oversee activities of such relationships; support the development of business partnerships to achieve corporate financial and growth objectives.
  • Participate in Government and Industry forums and trade shows to cultivate business opportunities.
  • Provide guidance for drafting contractual arrangements (i.e. Teaming Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, etc.).
  • Achieve sales targets and ensure effective expenditure of Bid & Proposal (B&P) resources.
  • Lead and/or contribute to pipeline development, capture strategies and proposal development.

Workforce Development & Sustainment

  • Serve as driving influence to foster and expand employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Lead and mentor Division Vice Presidents and Program Managers within business area to foster values of integrity, diversity, performance, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Monitor, assess, and implement standards for sustaining and advancing workforce talent acquisition, capability development, and associated training requirements.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, oversee employee performance management and development aligned with company values and business objectives.
  • Promote and oversee compliance with all corporate human resource policies and standards.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent with operations and business development background
  • 10+ years related experience in professional services industry with demonstrated profit and loss performance
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, execution, and results
  • Possess current and extensive contacts within the federal government community, including key decision makers, influencers, and partners
  • Knowledge of federal business acquisition process
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; thorough, clear, and timely oral and written communications; Ability to make formal presentations
  • Demonstrated subject matter credibility
  • Attention to detail and superior time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Eligibility for U.S. security clearance
  • Willing to travel
