OVERVIEW: The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructionaltechniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.

Summary:
Daily Substitute Teachers are in on-call positions, covering classes for teachers who are absent - implementing lesson plans for the day; Demonstrating good classroom/behavior management skills in order to maintain a safe learning environment; Adhering to school policies and procedures; Communicating with school personnel as needed.

Job Description:

Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years college/university coursework
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting or child care/camp setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and/or adolescent needs
  • Ability to provide/implement appropriate instructional activities for elementary and/or secondary school students
  • Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language required

Employment Information:
  • Employment Dates: August 19, 2024 - June 13, 2025
  • Required Orientation Training: dates to be announced
  • All employees hired must undergo and pay for a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting first day on the job. The current fee for the investigation can range from $35.50 to $135 depending on your location
  • Reports from Background Check and Gallaudet SARP Office must be in a good standing
  • Compensation: $20.50 per hour
  • Hours:
    • Full Day - 8:15 am - 3:45 pm
    • Half Day - 8:15 am - 11:45 am OR 11:45am - 3:15 pm
  • Deadline: Until Filled
