About the Department:

The Economics Department at George Mason University has developed a significant international reputation for a particular approach to economics. The Mason style of economics fuses traditional micro- and macroeconomics with scholarship in the fields of Public Choice (founded by Nobel Laureate and Mason Professor Emeritus James Buchanan), Austrian Economics, and Experimental Economics (the latter founded by Nobel Laureate and Mason Professor Emeritus Vernon Smith). Overall, Mason's economics program focuses on society and analyzes policy issues from both theoretical and applied perspectives.

About the Position:

The Instructor will be responsible for teaching courses in the Department's fully online Master of Arts in Economics program. Courses for the online program are scheduled asynchronously. Details on the online program, including course descriptions, can be found at the program website -

Possible courses for instruction, depending on openings, are in the areas of Microeconomic Theory, Econometrics, Experimental Economics, and Math Economics.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the instructor of record for a graduate-level course(s) in the Master of Arts in Economics program;
  • Obtain materials needed for classes, including texts and other materials and engage in the onboarding process to prepare for the course launch;
  • Maintain consistent communication with students enrolled in the class throughout the course session;
  • Meet with students, individually or as a class, as needed to assist with course material;
  • Implement assessment instruments (e.g., problem sets, quizzes, exams) as included in the course design;
  • Maintain contact with the Department's Graduate Studies Office throughout the course session with updates; and
  • Enter final course grades in line with University deadlines.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in economics.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience.
