City Clerk

The City of College Park, a progressive and diverse community of 35,000 in the state of Maryland, seeks an experienced professional to execute the duties of the City Clerk. This executive-level position reports to the City Manager and will oversee and manage the City's Clerk's office by serving as a liaison between the city elected officials, City staff, and the public.

Some of the duties of the City Clerk are to plan and manage the department's daily operations, prepare all material and packets for council meetings, attend all council meetings, prepare the official records of meetings, and ensure compliance with the Maryland Open Meetings Act for all public meetings.

The City Clerk serves as the Custodian of Records and is responsible for responding to all Maryland Public Information Act requests. The City Clerk administers the Mayor and Council Advisory Board program, administers city elections in compliance with City and state laws, and works in conjunction with the Board of Election Supervisors.

Additionally, the City Clerk develops and implements programs within organizational policy guidelines, reports significant events and activities to the City Manager, develops departmental budgets, and is a member of the Senior Leadership team.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate high commitment and integrity to the College Park community and provide the skills needed to communicate, troubleshoot, and build necessary relationships inside and outside the organization. The ideal candidate must have an excellent ability to communicate effectively with elected officials and individuals from diverse cultures, both orally and in writing.

The preferred qualifications of the ideal candidate are:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a closely related field, or experience equivalent to a degree.
  • Two years in election procedures and laws, personnel and department management, or closely related experience.
  • Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks within three years of accepting the position.

The hiring range is anticipated to be $98,731 - $106,136, depending on experience, plus excellent benefits. The City offers a generous fringe benefits package, including medical, dental, life, and retirement plans.
