Job Title: Director of Talent & HR

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: On-Site (Flexible Hybrid)

Reports to: Executive Director/Senior Leadership

Supervises: HR Manager

Salary Range: $90,000-$110,000/year

Essential Responsibilities

Team Management & Coaching

  • Oversee all members of the HR/Talent team on the core functions of their roles including but not limited to recruitment, contracts, compliance, benefits, visa/green card sponsorships, background checks, payroll, staff mediations and policies
  • Set clear vision, goals and working norms for the Talent and HR team
  • Provide excellent management to the HR Manager through individual check-ins, team meetings, accountability conversations, professional development and coaching
  • Develop project management tools to keep workflow manageable and on track

Lead and Direct HR Functions

  • Manage Yu Ying's payroll system, ensuring staff receive accurate and timely compensation
  • Provide engaging and effective trainings on new policies and systems
  • Ensures compliance reports related to personnel data and benefits are completed accurately and on time. Reports include but are not limited to: HRIS system, OSSE, Public Charter School Board, 401K, Flexible Spending Account, workman's compensation, OSHA, etc.
  • Ensure that Yu Ying is compliant with employment laws, HR regulations, payroll, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage the progressive discipline protocol, coordinate the grievance process, facilitate conflict resolution and seek legal guidance, as needed
  • Serves as the school's ethics officer, playing a central role in creating a code of ethics to protect employees and ensure fairness across the board with HR practices.
  • Performs specific research to collect and analyze HR data, identify organizational challenges, and assess the effectiveness of a variety of HR practices

Strategy & Organizational Culture

  • Collaborates with management teams to identify areas to improve staff morale, and develop initiatives to strengthen our overall work environment for the team, in accordance with the employee handbook
  • Develop and improve HR and Talent systems, processes and policies to support growth
  • Conduct an audit of school's current policies and systems and create a plan to systematically update processes and policies in alignment with organizational need and market based best practices
  • Develop a multi-year retention and recruitment strategy as well as accompanying annual plans to reach targets
  • Work in partnership with the COO on the school's compensation plans, including recommendations on pay scales, salary increase calendars, performance management systems, performance bonuses, and retention awards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • 6 years of overall professional work experience and proven success supporting talent and HR.
  • Appreciation, experience, and understanding of Chinese culture.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is preferred.
  • 2 years of management experience required; must have a strong track record of managing and coaching teams

Terms of Employment: 12 Months

  • Working Environment: In-school. The role is based on-site and will grow to include another campus, which will result in interaction with students, parents and staff.
