Sr. Windows Systems Administrator - Active Directory

Job description

Responsibilities:

Peraton is seeking a Advanced System Administrator (SA) who is responsible for managing and maintaining the systems and solutions hosted within CLASSIFIED networks. This position is onsite in Falls Church, Virginia.

The SA assists with a variety of tasks including, but not limited to server patching and maintenance, Active Directory (AD) infrastructure and Group Policy Object (GPO) administration, application functionality and availability verification, coordination with customers on support requirements, support for DHHQ datacenter facility issues and system hardware issues. Using VMWare, the SA will provide support for provisioning new servers and then applying required security patches to address known vulnerabilities.

Based on scans of the servers and secured according to DoD STIGs, the SA will be responsible for remediating known vulnerabilities and coordinating with the Cybersecurity team providing input for risk assessment as part of a system accreditation process (ATO, Annual Review).

Responsibilities:

  • Provides AD infrastructure server administration and troubleshooting including, but not limited to synchronization, FSMO roles, GPO, PKI infrastructure, Enterprise NTAuth store, user and computer authentication, DNS, DHCP, and Domain Controller (DC). Able to rebuild Windows Domains as required and deploy new DCs.
  • Installs, upgrades, maintains, and administers infrastructure software and hardware for Windows Server Operating System (OS), VMWare vSphere, Windows Workstation OS, third-party vendor desktop software (e.g., web-browsers, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Provides patch management by reviewing, analyzing, testing, and implementing Vendor's proposed changes, upgrades, and patches; performs firmware upgrades.
  • Provisions and loads PKI certificates on servers.
  • Assists with platform upgrades for VMWare vSphere.
  • Reviews potential changes to ensure Windows system software, applications, and hardware will not be impacted through implementation.
  • Coordinates system hardware and software testing with development teams to ensure transparent implementation and appropriate capacity.
  • Utilizes management tools (Microsoft SCCM and WSUS) for patching Windows servers, Windows workstations, and applications; images Windows workstations using SCCM.
  • Investigates and proposes solutions for development and customer needs which improve reliability, continuity, and maintainability for Windows systems hardware and software.
  • Monitors and ensures server backups and resilience methods are scheduled and functioning properly.
  • Provides day-to-day Tier 3 support and troubleshooting.
  • Accurately logs tickets and provides timely follow-up on all requests and incidents using the ITSM system (ServiceNow).
  • Delivers a high level of professionalism and customer service; provides accurate, and timely resolution on all supported issues.
  • Provides updates to management and project leadership of all ongoing critical issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field and 8+ years' experience in a technical IT role. Other alternatives for Education and Experience: MS 6+ years, PhD 3+ years, High School diploma and 12+ years experience in in lieu of BS Degree.
  • 4+ years SA or engineering experience including:
  • Windows Server (2019, 2016, or 2012r2)
  • Active Directory infrastructure (deployment/upgrades)
  • Group Policy administration/Windows security
  • Patch management tools (WSUS, SCCM, etc.)
  • VMWare Server Virtualization
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance (or equivalent)
  • Have or obtain requisite DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security + CE) within 60 days of beginning position.
  • Report in person to job site due to CLASSIFIED network security requirements.
  • Government contract requires person possess proof of U.S. citizenship.

  • Technical competency in the following areas:
  • Windows workstation OS (e.g., Windows 10)
  • Storage Area Networks (NetApp desired)
  • Network communications
  • Solar Winds
  • Veeam Backup & Replication
  • McAfee ePO
  • Proficient with DoD security assessment/hardening tools (DoD STIGs, SCAP, ACAS, STIG-Viewer/CKLs, Nessus, etc.).
  • Knowledge of batch scripting in PowerShell, VBScript, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to coordinate and lead multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current industry standard systems architectures
  • Strong critical thinking skills that facilitate expedient problem-solving

Target Salary Range:
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
