Context and Philosophy

Friends School of Baltimore is seeking a full-time Upper School Spanish Teacher to begin in August 2024. The position would be to teach four sections of Spanish at various proficiency levels, using a communicative teaching approach that builds structural control and develops language proficiency in all modes of communication. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire and ability to inspire and support students, to work collaboratively with colleagues, to use technology in their teaching, and to employ a variety of classroom and assessment strategies that meet the needs of Language students with diverse learning profiles. All Upper School teachers participate in the full program of an independent school in addition to their classroom responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach the core subject area(s) that honors the Quaker values and the of Friends School.
  • Collaborate with teachers in the Department, within the Upper School division, and across other divisions at Friends School.
  • Provide clear, timely, and consistent feedback to students.
  • Meet one-on-one with students for support as needed.
  • Provide parents and administrators with written and oral reports (as needed) that explain in detail how students are progressing in the various areas of their educational experience.
  • Complete punctual, prescriptive progress reports, grades, and comments at the assigned times during the year for each student taught.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and experience preferred
  • Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to understand and incorporate Quaker Principles and Quaker education into their work.
