**Position summary:**

The Maryland SPCA (MD SPCA) produces marketing events and time-limited campaigns to increase brand awareness, increase program participation,and generate donations and sponsorships that help grow the organization.

The marketing event specialist is responsible for planning and executing our two major fundraising events (spring and fall). The specialist also supervises volunteers to ensure success of smaller events.

In addition, the position works with the marketing and communications director to research, plan, and execute time-limited fundraising campaigns. These include Maryland SPCA Giving Day; Giving Tuesday; and product-driven campaigns with corporate partners (a new area of work where the specialist can make their mark).

The specialist is a critical liaison between the marketing and communications department and all other MD SPCA departments in creating, coordinating, and delivering high-quality events and marketing content. It will work especially closely with the development department.

Responsibilities include developing event and campaign strategies; developing and tracking budgets; identifying staff and volunteer roles; cultivating vendor relationships; selecting venues; overseeing event registration; and communicating with internal and external stakeholders. The position will also support the finance and administration team in coordinating rentals of our facilities for non-MD SPCA events.

The marketing event specialist reports to the marketing and communications director.

**Essential duties and responsibilities:**

* Plan, direct, and execute at least two major events. Manage all aspects of marketing, logistics, and budgeting, as well as coordinate with other departments.

* Together with the marketing and communications director, develop and execute time-limited fundraising campaigns.

* Lead effort to transition planning/execution of small events (e.g., restaurant trivia nights, table at World of Pets Expo) to volunteers over 12 to 24 months. Supervise volunteers following transition.

* Research, recommend, and build strong relationships with vendors.

* Keep detailed records and leverage technology to track event signups and communicate with participants.

* Lead event briefings to solicit questions and feedback and make data-guided decisions.

* Support finance and administration team in coordinating rentals of our facilities for non-MD SPCA events.

* Serve as a liaison between the marketing/communications team and other departments to help manage competing needs and schedule out projects.

* Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

**Qualifications:**

* Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.

* 3 - 5 years' experience in event planning and management.

* Extensive experience building and executing project plans and event logistics.

* Experience developing and managing budgets, as well as negotiating and coordinating with vendors.

* Experience managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).

* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

* Excellent written and oral communications skills, including ability to present, run meetings, and balance needs of multiple parties.

* Experience with cross-functional, inter-departmental teams, including volunteers and committees.

* Experience with MailChimp, Classy, and Virtuous platforms a plus.

**Physical demands:**

* Able to lift 30 - 50lbs during event setup and teardown.

* Frequent sitting, with some standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

* Use of computer keyboard and telephone.

**Working conditions:**

* Frequent exposure to animals.

* Work is frequently performed in an office setting.

* Occasional offsite work in a variety of environments requiring reliable transportation.

* Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

* Occasional need to drive company vans.

* Exposure to high noise when in kennel area.

* Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
