The Staff Accountant, Compliance role will be responsible for collecting and reconciling data to support filings to government agencies, with a focus on filings to the FEC and other state agencies. This person will be a key player in process improvements, new products, etc. that enhance these filings processes. The accuracy and reconciliation of underlying data for these filings warrants a strong accounting background with attention to detail and compliance mindset.
Your Responsibilities Include
Collect information from internal sources to prepare, or assist with preparing, electoral compliance filings timely and accurately
Track financial activity of certain areas on a regular, real-time basis
Research transactions in the accounting system for purposes of electoral filings
Assist with entity-wide financial statement evaluation and preparation as it relates to compliance needs
Reconcile electoral filings to the accounting system and to other sources
Other ad hoc accounting and compliance projects as needed
Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
1-2 years of accounting, tax, or other accounting/compliance experience
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and tasks simultaneously
Strong working knowledge with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
Attention to detail, particularly with populating reports/filings with financial data
Entrepreneurial mindset
Preferred Qualifications
Public accounting or other client-facing experience
Experience with electoral compliance, campaign finance, or other political activities
Exposure to a nonprofit and/or political organization's environment
Familiarity with Sage Intacct, CMDI/Crimson, or Concur systems
Interest in current events, particularly with respect to governmental & political news
