About Bishop McNamara High School

Bishop McNamara High School is a private, Catholic co-educational high school in the Holy Cross tradition, offering its students a challenging college preparatory curriculum and a complete range of athletics and activities. The school is located in Forestville, Maryland, about 10 minutes from Washington, D.C.

About the Mathematics Department

The Mathematics Department is a team committed to helping students speak the universal language of mathematics. Our courses reflect the wide and exciting variety of students we attract. Because mathematics is about more than numbers and formulas, we challenge our students every day to not only solve abstract problems, but also apply their skills to real situations. Our weekly after-school "Math Power Hour," as well as tutoring by Mu Alpha Theta honors society students, offer individualized assistance and also inspire keen interest, scholarship, and enjoyment in mathematics.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing designated curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the course standards.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Participates in faculty meetings.
  • Administers testing in accordance with testing practices.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

  • Possess familiarity with the subject(s) being taught.
  • Demonstrate some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in mathematics, mathematics education or related field
  • Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience using technology to extend and enhance learning, G Suite for Education (Google Apps) in a 1:1 BYOD environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.

LOCATION/TRAVEL: While Bishop McNamara High School is located in Forestville, MD, you may live anywhere in the surrounding region, but be willing to make any commute to the school.
