I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Office of Enrollment and Student Success (ESS) is a mission-driven organization providing a cohesive experience throughout all phases of the student lifecycle, from the admissions and enrollment process through graduation and beyond, by supporting a connected, comprehensive and student-centered approach to the student experience. An integral component to ESS, the Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) administers over $430 million in financial aid (institutional grants and federal loans combined) to undergraduate and graduate students, and is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations relating to student financial aid. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, Financial Aid Counseling & Processing, the Senior Financial Aid Counselor assists in the administration of federal, state, and institutional student aid programs for a diverse population of traditional and non-traditional students. Primary duties include:

Financial Aid Processing:
  • Processes student aid applications and package awards.
  • Verifies and assesses student eligibility for financial aid.
  • Conducts assessment of student needs including monitoring and evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  • Provides financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding application procedures and eligibility requirements.
  • Counsels students and aid recipients regarding the cost of attendance, management of available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
  • Provides assistance to students with loans, grants, scholarships, and the financial aid application process, and reviews applications to ensure accurate and complete information.
  • Manages the Undergraduate student populations' project plan.
  • Monitors satisfactory academic progress of students receiving financial aid.


Compliance:
  • Demonstrates a firm understanding in government and private resources for funding a college education.
  • Interprets, implements, and maintains up-to-date knowledge of Federal and State guidelines governing financial aid programs


Communications:
  • Delivers exemplary customer service to prospective and continuing students and families in planning and coordinating the funding of their education.
  • Communicates appropriate information to other OSFA departments.


Data Management:
  • Uses GW systems in Office of Financial Aid to record, track, and analyze student questions, and engagements.
  • Utilizes Federal and State agency online data management systems to troubleshoot students


The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
