Strategic Communications Specialist

Job description

MoveAmerica is seeking a skilled and versatile strategic communications professional to join our team in a writing and editing focused role. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide expert writing and editing services in the areas of external and marketing communications, public affairs, congressional and legislative affairs, policy, and technical documentation. The Strategic Communications Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting government initiatives and ensuring effective communication across various channels.


Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging and persuasive content for a variety of communication channels, including press releases, speeches, newsletters, social media posts, and website content. Maintain consistent messaging and tone to effectively convey key information to the target audience.
  • Develop content for public relations campaigns, public information initiatives, and outreach efforts. Write press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, brochures, and other materials to inform and engage the public about government programs, policies, and events.
  • Work with SMEs to prepare responses to inquiries and provide report writing and editing support.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather necessary information and provide writing and editing support for policy documents, guidelines, and regulations. Ensure clarity accuracy, and alignment to policy objectives are met through clear communication.
  • Create clear and concise technical documentation, including manuals, guides, reports, and procedures. Transform complex information into easily understandable content for specific target audiences. Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and technical correctness.
  • Work closely with the Strategic Communications Lead, subject matter experts, government officials, policy analysts, and other team members to gather information, obtain feedback, and ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of written materials. Collaborate on cross-functional projects and provide writing support as needed.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Five plus years proven experience as a writer in the federal government or a similar environment, with a strong focus on external communications and marketing, public affairs, congressional and legislative affairs, policy, and technical writing.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to adapt writing styles to different purposes and target audiences.
  • Strong research and analytical skills to gather information from diverse sources and translate complex concepts into clear and concise content.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software and tools, including Microsoft Office suite and website content management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and government officials.
  • Adherence to DoD security protocols and compliance with all regulations and policies governing the handling of sensitive information.
  • Flexible to occasionally work evenings and weekends to meet project deadlines.
  • U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance


Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master s degree in English, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Experience and familiarity with Federal government operations, processes, policies, and regulations, and the ability to understand and interpret complex information.
  • Experience on a Federal government headquarters staff.
  • Proficiency with delivering client-ready content in AP style, and experience following organizational style guidelines to ensure accuracy and consistency in written materials.

Ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance.
