The George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking to fill the position of Docent/Museum/Event Team Member. The Memorial is a National Historic Landmark and one of the region's most memorable museums. Tours are about one hour in length, and explore the many rooms and galleries of the museum while explaining important aspects of George Washington's history and the American Masonic heritage. A written script will be used for learning the vital information each tour guide needs to effectively and efficiently convey, therefore memory skills are important. Also essential, are strong customer service skills, comfort while speaking before small and large groups, and POS skills. The shift is usually 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (give or take) with a 30 minute lunch break.
The Museum within the Memorial is in the process of fully reopening in the coming weeks. Currently, the Museum is open Thursday through Monday. Both weekday and weekend shifts are available. We are also a sought after event venue for an array of event types, from weddings to conferences to dance recitals to movie filming, etc. Shifts assisting before, during and after events may become available to qualified team members. There are also opportunities to assist within the Museum Department for team members with the proper experience. Docent/Museum/Event Team Members work under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations. The Memorial is walking distance from the King Street Metro, which serves the blue and yellow lines.
