Summary:

The Office of Rep. Frederica S. Wilson seeks a legislative director. Congresswoman Wilson is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development and a distinguished member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Additionally, she is the founder and chair of the Caucus on the Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys and the U.S. Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys.

Duties:

Lead the development and execution of legislative priorities.

Effectively manage and empower legislative staff to advance the Member's agenda.

Supervise legislative, policy, and constituent correspondence operations.

Prepare and brief the Member for meetings, hearings, markups, votes, and other engagements.

Draft and review bills, memos, talking points, floor speeches, op-eds, and committee materials.

Maintain current status reports on all legislation pertinent to the district, sponsored or cosponsored by the Congresswoman.

Collaborate with Senate offices on companion bills and develop new legislation based on the Member's initiatives in the Florida legislature.

Assist organizations and constituents within the district on federal matters.

Establish and implement systems for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting quantitative data regarding legislative activities, constituent engagement, and policy impact, furnishing insights for decision-making and strategic planning.

Collaborate with the Chief of Staff, Senior Advisor, and District staff to devise comprehensive legislative strategies.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Extensive expertise in policy and management.

Demonstrated comprehension of the legislative process, encompassing House floor and committee procedures.

Advanced writing, communication, research, and organizational skills.

Established relationships and experience collaborating with federal agencies and advocates.

Strong academic credentials.

Preferred Experience:

Prior experience as Legislative Director or senior policy staff.

Minimum of 7 years of legislative experience in a Congressional office and 3 years of management experience.

Familiarity with issues under the jurisdiction of the Education and the Workforce, Transportation and Infrastructure, Appropriations, or Judiciary Committees.

Demonstrable proficiency in crafting floor speeches, statements, talking points, questions, op-eds, and letters.

Graduate or law degree.

Knowledge of or connections to Florida.

Location and Compensation:

This position is based in our Washington, DC, office, with occasional travel to Florida. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
