General SummaryThe Population Health Data Analyst I works in conjunction with the Analytics team to analyze claims, Electronic Medical Record, Health Information Exchange, and other data sources to identify opportunities for clinical improvement activities. This individual takes direction from the Population Health Data Analyst II, III, IV, and leadership of the Population Health Services Organization to effectively communicate these opportunities to the participating physicians of the University of Maryland Quality Care Network.Qualifications

Education and ExperienceBachelor s degree required. Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.One (1) years of data analysis or equivalent experience is required (Graduate/advanced degrees and/or certification will be considered in lieu of years of experience).Previous healthcare experience is preferred. Previous experience in population health is ideal but not mandatoryExperience with analysis of claims data is ideal but not mandatory.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong organizational, quantitative and problem solving skills with strategic and creative thinkingExcellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external customersStrong aptitude for analytical thinking and demonstrated data skills.Demonstrated ability to work with large data and self-direct in analysis to reach recommendations and conclusions.Experience with qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques in order to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of program management practices.Experience and knowledge of payer claims structure and content.Working ConditionsWeekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and may be require work beyond normal tour of duty to complete projects, meet deadlines, or respond to emergencies.Work is performed in various environments within UMMS. These environments include, but are not limited to the following: a standard office environment, Data Center/closets environment, or Healthcare environment.Periodic traveling out of town with overnight stays to obtain required training, education, or certification may be required.Work may include regular travel to and from the various affiliated institutions within the Medical System.Work may be required in a Healthcare facility which the observance of Universal Precautions is mandated. Universal Precautions involves the wearing of protective clothing/equipment and the observance of safe work practice.There is potential for regular exposure to hazardous materials and hazards from use of tools and power equipment in the work environment.Work is high demand and fast paced.May require lifting, carrying supplies/equipment, pushing/pulling equipment in excess of 40 lbs.May require standing stooping, bending and walking for prolonged periods of time.Talking and hearing necessary for conversations with callers, visitors, patients, families and staff members.Additional Information

Primary work location will be UM Rehab & Ortho.
