The Senior Data Scientist will leverage their comprehensive expertise to support the development and transformation of large applications and data to support the digitally transformed US Census Bureau (USCB). The 2030 Decennial Census system-of-systems will be scaled up to become one of the largest and most successful production environments running in the AWS GovCloud region. We require an innovative engineer who can help our USCB customer plan for and develop 2030 Decennial Census applications in a new, highly secure enterprise cloud environment.

Responsibilities;

Primary responsibilities will focus on data science engineeringReview model output results according to technical requirements and verify that the algorithm design and implementation meet expectations, provide feedback and recommendations to address identified issuesImprove efficiency of data verification through process optimization and process automationConvert existing modules and queries from legacy platforms such as SAS/STATA to PySpark for cluster-based processingCollaborate with other data scientists on data analysis, implementation review, model verification, and performance improvementBrainstorm, design, and develop data processing approaches, modules, and functions; prepare test data and configurationsIdentify and evaluate open-source software packages to support modelling and analysis to improve cost-effectivenessWork with application engineering and DevOps teams on data science package deployment; assist the teams on issues related to data scienceSetup Spark and customize unit development environments according to technical needsMaintain code base, data sets, and the related project documents associated with the data analysisWork with shareholders on technical directions, project requirements, and technical updatesProvide SME-level support on cutting-edge methodologies such as those related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of related experienceUS Citizenship required. Candidates must also be able to pass a Department of Commerce Public Trust investigationAbility to lead discussions with other Federal and internal data scientists, develop and build data strategies and build new algorithms.Strong AWS Cloud and cloud-native expertiseStrong Python, Pyspark, SAS and/or STATA development capabilitiesExtensive data science knowledge with strong modeling, analysis, and hands-on data backgroundExpertise in large-scale data processing, data research, data mining, and verificationExperience in Agile project methodology in a fast-pace development project environmentFamiliar with information security principles and policies to protect sensitive information
