At the American Red Cross, your uniqueness can shine!WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:The American Red Cross is looking for a Junior Data Scientist to leverage existing data to help with the development & execution of predictive models. The Junior Data Scientist will work closely with the Sr. Data scientists in preparing data and maintaining data science models. This person will also help apply predictive analytics, machine learning, and optimization techniques to generate management insights and optimize business functions.

We are seeking candidates with knowledge in statistics, as well as hands-on experience building predictive models.The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast or Central hours.WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):Provides data science and data engineering support to create high performing predictive models and creative analyses to address business objectives and client needs.Work with Business SMEs to help gather requirements and help to maintain models which predict the outcome of key business processes.Follow industry trends in related data analytics processes and businesses.Develop high-performance algorithms for predictive analytics.Help with testing and implementing algorithms in scalable, product-ready code.Exercises creativity in applying non-traditional approaches to large-scale analysis of unstructured data in support of high-value use cases.Handles processing against high-volume collections of data.Has the ability to utilize advance tools and computational skills to interpret, connect, predict and make discoveries in complex data and deliver recommendations.Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):Education: Bachelors degree in math, computer science or statistics.Experience: At least 2+ years of data science expertise.Advanced applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.Algorithmic problem solving and software development skills (Python or similar)Demonstrated experience in the use of data mining, machine learning, and predictive analytics to address real-life problems.Excellent analytical, communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.

Combination of candidate s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++PAY INFORMATION:The starting annual salary range for this position is $85K - $105K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
