Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen
The Solid Waste Management Program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Waste Reduction and Recycling Specialist (Environmental Specialist 4) (In-Training) position. This position can be located in either our Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA or Eastern Region Office (ERO) in Spokane, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.
In this role, you will serve as the local government expert in all things recycling for Central and Eastern Washington, with the goal of waste reduction, diverting valuable materials from disposal, and helping local governments. You will lead agency efforts on an expanded polystyrene ban and annual Waste Not Washington School Awards, including web content and marketing materials. You will play a key role in several other statewide and regional activities including the plastic bag ban and single-use service ware restrictions, Washington State Recycling Association, Plastics Pact, and West Coast Climate Materials Management Forum.
Note: This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the Environmental Specialist field and achieve the goal class of an Environmental Specialist 4. Candidates will be considered at the Environmental Specialist 3 and the Environmental Specialist 4 levels, depending on their qualifications.
