Description

Are you seeking a full-time position and possess a customer service mindset?

The City of Westerville is accepting applications for a Full-Time Accounting Assistant to serve in the Finance Department, Administration & Accounting Division. Candidates should be able to work onsite from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

This position is open until filled. Applications are being reviewed as they are received.

This accounting work may include: processing invoices, scheduling vendor payments, accounts receivable, reconciling transactions, communicating with vendors, and verifying transactions in compliance with policies and procedures. Work involves attention to details, following policies and procedures, maintaining sensitive information, protecting confidential documentation and communication.

SUPERVISION

Employee works under the general direction of the department accountant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK

(May not include all duties performed.)
  • The employee must be able to balance a variety of accounts, maintain records, communicate regularly with the public,vendors, and other employees, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Work is reviewed through system checks and balances and adherence to city policies and procedures.
  • Abilities should include learning new technology and software, as well as Microsoft and Google products. In addition to operating office equipment, such as phones, copiers, printers and mail machines.
  • Communicates policy and procedures to other employees, vendors and contractors; provides assistance to staff in other departments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Possession of a high school diploma and three years experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable or government purchasing work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge,abilities, and skills:
  • Knowledge of accounts payable, receivables, and purchasing.
  • Knowledge of business office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of accounting software, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to key alpha-numeric data quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to recognize and correct data entry errors.
  • Ability to file records.

HEALTH BENEFITS
Employees pay 15% of the monthly medical insurance premium through United Healthcare which includes prescription coverage. Employee, Employee plus child(ren), Employee plus spouse and family coverage is available. However, a spouse who has affordable health care coverage through their employer must elect that coverage as primary. The City health care plan is a high deductible healthcare plan.

HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT
Annually, the City will deposit 85% of your health insurance deductible amount into an HSA account in your name.

VISION AND DENTAL
The City pays 100% of the premium for dental and vision. Coverage levels will be explained in further detail at time of hire.

LIFE INSURANCE
The City pays 100% of the premium on a $100,000 life insurance policy for employee and $10,000 for spouse and $5,000 for child.

RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. The employee pension payment share is 10% of gross salary.

VACATION
New employees accrue two weeks of paid vacation every year. Vacation time increases with length of service time.

PERSONAL LEAVE
Employees receive 6 prorated days of personal leave annually.
