You'll have an opportunity to work on world-class military programs that support the US Navy's Warfare technology as part of the Warheads and Propulsion Branch. The applicant shall work with the Engineering team as part of an integrated product team. This role primarily consists of providing mechanical engineering support for Warheads and Propulsion System products. Other duties include, but not limited to:Provide technical support on various engineering projects alone and as part of an engineering teamProvide mechanical design support for warhead components and safetyConduct research and analysisParticipate and contribute to the team in developing project plans, testing plans, and for writing and briefing progress and results to upper management and sponsorsExperience in designing parts for manufacturing (DFMA). Basic knowledge of machining / best practices, hands on machining experience a plus Ability to work in outdoor range environments (potential of lifting metal / usage of basic power tools)Excellent problem solver with limited information / unknownsCapable of assisting in providing solutions to complex design problems. Knowledge of geometric tolerancing / ability to produce Level II / III engineering drawings.Ability to form relationships with various organizationsAbility to track various moving parts (i.e. logistics)The applicant shall work on site with the Engineering team with some off-site work from home available on a weekly basisEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering5+ years of engineering experience Experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus.SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:Background/experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYSExperience using solid modeling, analysis, and evaluation of structural/component designExperience with Additive manufacturing/3D printing and mechanical toolsExperience with developing technical solutions based on analysis or testingExperience with SOLIDWORKS, Creo, MATLAB, AutoCAD, C++, Python, Power Point, MS Word & ExcelAbility to conduct technical assessments of engineering changes to capture the impacts to cost/performance of the systemAbility to identify and recommend product improvements to improve the performance/cost of the system and mitigate risks. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writingA self-starter able to work on tasks individually or as part of a small technical teamSome minimal travel may be requiredOTHER REQUIREMENTS:Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
