Job description

The Retreat at Sheppard Pratt consists of a 22 bed residential program nationally renowned for expert care. The Retreat is designed for patients seeking a comprehensive evaluation and intensive treatment experience in a psychotherapeutic milieu, unencumbered by the payment policies of third parties in order to give our residents a chance to make meaningful progress toward recovery.

The Retreat offers an elegantly appointed setting in a specially renovated space on Sheppard Pratt's main campus in Towson (Baltimore County). Residents stay for an intermediate length of several weeks to several months. The Retreat embodies a multi-disciplinary treatment approach to a variety of psychiatric conditions that can be treated safely and effectively in a voluntary, unlocked environment. These psychiatric conditions may include mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and/or co-occurring disorders including substance-use disorders.

General Summary:

Under general supervision, utilizes skills and experience with co-occurring substance abuse and/or process addiction and psychiatric illness adult patients and their families, to develop educational and clinical programming, provide clinical care, and assist in the program's referrer relations, education, and marketing strategies. Communicates with patients based on an understanding of the developmental needs of adults. Provides education and counseling on substance abuse, chemical dependency, process addiction, psychiatric illness, and treatment to patients and their families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, diagnoses, and therapies; professional counseling theory, principles, and practice; and basic computer usage skills -- acquired through completion of a master's degree in counseling, psychology or related field. Employee will be required to demonstrate the core competencies required for working with adult dual diagnosis patient population.

2. Licensure as a Certified Associate Counselor - Alcohol & Drug (CAC-AD), Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor (CCDC) or other professional licensure that enables practice as a Chemical Dependency Counselor in the State of Maryland, including LCSW, LMSW, LCPC and LGPC licensure.

3. Knowledge of referral and community resources, orientation to co-occurring psychiatric patients, and planning and organizational skills sufficient to develop, maintain, and evaluate educational, clinical and referrer relations programs - acquired through a minimum of three years' supervised experience in alcohol and drug counseling. Employee will be required to demonstrate the core competencies required for working with adult co-occurring patient population.

4. Interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate effectively in providing therapy and instruction; serve in liaison role with patients, families, staff, and a wide variety of professionals while performing case management and triage functions; and maintain a highly visible, positive image of the program to physicians, hospitals, schools, and referrers.

5. Analytical skills sufficient to develop and tailor educational and clinical programming to meet patient needs and payor and licensure requirements, perform intake assessments, and assist patients in resolving problems.
