The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.The Maryland Transit Administration ( MTA) is recruiting for a Environmental Manager I. The purpose of this position is to assist with the managerment and administrative work of the MTA environmental sciences and resource management protection. and complance programs. The employee assist with the supervision of major, complex and innovative projects in researching, analyzing and evaluating the environmental impact of projects, making recommendations to minimize and mitigate environmental impact, and designing restoration and mitigation projects for MTA Environmental Compliance program.Employees are responsible for assisting with the coordination of multi-disciplined teams work and providing guidance and direction to units resposible for programs designed to prevent, identify, and mitigate impacts to the environment related to the operation and maintenance of transportation systems and facilities, and to achieve, maintain and document compliance with all environmental laws and regulations applicable to the multi-media operations of those systems across MTA facilities, Bus Divisions, Light Rail Link, Mtro Subwaylink, and MARC Train, amongst others. The employee in this position may provide technical guidance to he work of staff assigned to other parts of the organization that have responsibilities for components of the MTA environmental compliance programs. The employees in this class are responsible for planning, supervising, managing, and coordinating the work of multi-dosciplinary consultant teams of professional and technical staff on an array of projects and issue areas.The employee must demonstrate technical knowledge in environmental management to include the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management or multi-media operations, and development and implemntation of environmental management systemsQualificationsEducation: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences, earth science, physical science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy, forestry, horticulture or related sciences, geography, environmental planning, civil engineering, sociology, economics, planning, anthropology, architectural history, or related fields such as ecology, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering.Experience: Seven years of experience in environmental analysis to include the development of plans, specifications, estimates and design, OR seven years' experience in environmental management to include the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management or multi-media operations. One year of the experience must have involved functioning as a team leader or overseeing the work of consultants or contractors in an environmental area.Notes:Possession of a Master's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience.Possession of a Doctorate's degree in one of the disciplines required may be substituted for two years of the required non-supervisory experience.U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.Licenses & CertificationsEmployees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle.
