Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patrols and inspects buildings and adjacent grounds. Responds to calls for service and takes appropriate action;
Screens lists of authorized residents against all persons entering and exiting buildings at secured and controlled entrances and exits;
Contacts residents by telephone or intercom to ensure that the visitor is acceptable; logs all visitors as to the date, time and destination. Logs out departures;
Monitors all safety devices such as fire alarm systems, elevators and security equipment; and responds to emergencies when these devices are activated;
Notifies the Property Management Office of floods, fires and other hazardous conditions which affect the safety of residents, guests, staff and property; notifies the Authority's Command Center when the Property Management Office is closed;
Notifies the Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services of all life threatening emergencies;
Makes necessary arrests in accordance with the District of Columbia Code; and contacts the appropriate law enforcement agency for transportation and assistance;
Conducts package and vehicle inspections as well as limited searches of individuals suspected of illegal activity;
Receives, issues and accounts for all keys to Authority buildings, offices and locked gates;
Maintains a 24 hour log of all criminal or unusual activity, incidents or anything requiring action;
Prior to checking off from given tour of duty, certifies that Authority property is safe; any contrary comments will be noted on the duty log and turned over to officer assuming the next tour of duty;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education and/or Experience
Incumbent must possess a high school diploma/GED.
The Incumbent must:
Possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment and during tenure of employment.
Pass a medical examination.
Pass a drug-screening test.
Pass a thorough background investigation.
Successfully complete the required Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), and;
