Job description

Overview

Responsible for leading and managing architectural projects on a day-to-day basis from concept design through construction administration to include bidding and contract negotiations, all stages of design and close out.

Responsibilities

* Creation and development of design standards to be worked into the larger organization's brand and color guidelines.

* Turning conceptual ideas into tangible project outcomes.

* Assist in updating the archive system for past projects.

* Manage small projects, developing design documents to be communicated with in-house staff and/or outside contractors for renovation and new park improvements.

* Develop Program and concept requirements for capital improvement projects in conjunction with key stakeholders.

* Involvement in executing annual operational and capital project loads.

* Performs Construction Administrative duties as it relates to capital and operational projects.

* Performs and documents final punch list to be coordinated with Construction Manager.

* Management and oversight of third-party design services.

* Understanding the value of a project based on conceptual requirements and ability to communicate said value with senior leadership.

* Design and manage projects to specified schedule and budget requirements.

* Maintain any existing certifications and keep up with current architectural trends and advancements in the industry.

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks to include but not limited to animal care, facilities, construction, golf course, water park, The Wilds, education, and guest relations teams.

* Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks.

* Prioritized implementing sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in architecture required.

* Minimum of 3 years' experience past graduation.

* Architecture license preferred but not required.

* Experience with managing design projects preferred.

* Confident in understanding and navigating the Building Code.

* Confident in understanding ADA guidelines and requirements.

* Excellent written and verbal communication required.

* Familiar with sustainable design standards and practices.

* Comfortable within the development of site design.

* Understanding the design cycle from Program Development through Construction Documents and into construction administration.

* Computer skills should include AutoCAD, ReVit, Illustrator, Photoshop and SketchUp.

* Additional desired computer skills: Bluebeam Revu, Excel, MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft One Drive and Microsoft TEAMS.

* Basic understanding of Project Management Professional (PMP) guidelines.

* Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.

* Embracing the DEIAB initiatives of the organization.

* Ability to provide excellent guest service by interacting with guests positively and upholding the Make it G.R.E.A.T. standards required.

* Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Columbus Zoo Family of Parks team members and contacts regarding company business required.

* Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.

* Possession of a valid state-issued motor vehicle operator's license and a good driving record required.

* Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.

* Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Parks' drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.

* Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
