Summary

The Underwriting Support Specialist II performs a variety of underwriting support tasks including regulatory proof of coverage reporting; review and entry of new business submissions; review, updating and distribution of incoming bureau experience modification worksheets; preparation and distribution of Aggravated Inequity notifications to agencies, and calculation of retrospective premium adjustment projections for underwriting management. Position also provides back up to Premium Analysts for agency and direct bill quality review and invoice distribution.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
  • Regulatory proof of coverage (POC) reporting PEEP and NCCI POC systems
    • Using base premium, Increase Limit Factor, Exp Mod, and Waivers of Subrogation to determine premium entered for each state
    • Verify and if necessary, update POC names/addresses, exposures/premium of both primary and additional insured's on the policy and endorsements
    • Update POC policy data related to resolved NCCI errors and Bureau Crits
  • Review and entry of new business submissions
    • Check reservation system for prior receipt of submission
    • Enter account information including names, addresses, FEIN, agency, and effective date
    • Enter classifications, payroll, and experience mod to rate submission
    • Consult loss control maps for appropriate system entry of loss control zone
    • File submission correspondence on OnBase
  • Review, update and distribution of bureau experience modification worksheets
    • Access bureau systems to retrieve worksheets
    • Compare worksheet experience mod date and factor with experience mod factor and dates in Diamond and update if appropriate
    • Distribute mod worksheets to appropriate underwriters
    • File experience mod worksheets and corresponding written communication on OnBase
  • Aggravated Inequity notifications to agencies
    • Segregate claim reduction reports by agent and email notification to agent
    • Enter comment into Diamond per each policy impacted
  • Retrospective premium adjustment projections
    • Check retro schedule to determine policies due for estimated retro calculation.
    • Develop retro premium from as of last adjustment and estimated retro premium as of a specific date using loss data and calculate the estimated difference in retro premium between the two.
    • Total resulting differences (retro payouts) by underwriting company (UH & UHIL) and email results to management monthly
  • Agency and direct bill quality review and agency invoice distribution
    • Quality control and reconcile billing installment plans and surcharges between Diamond and United Heartland Billing systems

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or G.E.D required. Additional college and/or insurance related course study desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years commercial casualty underwriting support experience preferably in a multi-state, multi-bureau environment. Previous experience with larger premium workers compensation policies a plus. Previous regulatory compliance experience a plus.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills required
  • Strong customer and team-oriented work experience and ethic
  • Familiarity with commercial insurance bureau and underwriting processes
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a team is essential
  • Accurate math and data entry skills required
  • Ability to organize daily work responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative and recommend changes to improve operational performance
  • Knowledge of computers and company standard software programs, with intermediate knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential
  • Effective problem solving and attention to detail skills are essential

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards.

Pay Range - Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate's skills and professional experience, geographic location, market, and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $37,400 and $62,800.
