Description

The Operations Division of the is accepting applications for several Seasonal Maintenance Worker positions for the spring and summer seasons.

$18.00 per hour. Typical workweek is 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday (40 hours per week). Scheduled hours may be reduced or vary occasionally depending on weather. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work in addition to normally scheduled work hours may be required depending on workload requirements. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.

As a Seasonal Maintenance Worker with the City of Gaithersburg, you will perform routine manual labor assignments and tasks in an assigned program area (street maintenance, parks maintenance, landscaping, mowing, etc.). Seasonal Maintenance Workers also participate in setting up and cleaning up for special events and programs and other activities associated with maintaining the general appearance of the City and the public rights-of-way. Employees may operate a variety of maintenance equipment, hand tools, and power tools.

Job Functions

What you will do with us:
  • Job assignments will vary based on the crew you join.
  • You may assist with parks and grounds preparation and maintenance; perform various street maintenance duties such as cleaning gutters and patching holes; mow grass and rake leaves; plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and flowers; load and unload materials and equipment; and/or pick/up collect trash, leaves, and grass for recycling.
  • You may place and remove street signs; act as a flagger at construction sites; and assist with installing and removing festive lights, decorations, and flags.
  • You'll assist with special projects and other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

What you will need to be considered:
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) desirable.
  • Have at least 6 months of experience in related manual work.
  • Be hard-working, dependable, responsible, punctual, and safety conscious.
  • Be able to understand and carry out specific verbal instructions.
  • Be able to perform moderate to heavy manual labor over extended periods of time, possibly under adverse weather conditions.
  • Have the ability to operate mowers, tools, and other maintenance and repair equipment.
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team and to interact with others in a positive, courteous, respectful and professional manner.
  • Forklift training and flagger certification (preferred).
  • Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
