Job description

The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff "for fit" makes significant contributions to Howard University's overall mission.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides support to the Senior Director of Diplomatic Fellowships and the Senior Advisor for the Rangel and Pickering Programs. The incumbent assists with support for the mentorship program, the writing program, recruiting, and selections to support the two senior officials as well as the Directors of the Rangel and Pickering Programs in areas such recruiting and selections, as needed.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:

Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Internal contacts include faculty and staff of the University.

External contacts are with individual applicants, the public, our sponsoring agency and other program stakeholders and organizations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support for Senior Director of Diplomatic Fellowships (SDDF) and Senior Advisor (SA) for Rangel and Pickering Programs
  • Supports the DDF and SA in presentations, events, travel and other executive functions; represents the DDF and SA at meetings, events, and in other areas.
  • Supports DDF and SA in the planning for and implementation of the mentoring and professional writing programs for the Rangel and Pickering Program; in recruitment and selections; and in other tasks as needed.
  • Supports DDF and SA in identifying recruiting opportunities, researching and expanding outreach contacts, arranging presentations and events, creating and updating contact lists.
  • Supporting Rangel and Pickering Program Selection Processes
  • Supports the set-up and implementation of the selection processes for the Rangel and Pickering Fellowships, including reviewing applications, corresponding with applicants, supporting engagement and meetings with the selection panel, arranging interviews and logistics, analyzing application data, and assisting in other ways required.
  • Database/File Management
  • Spearheads the maintenance and upgrades of the alumni database and filing initiatives.
  • Assists the programming staff in the preparations and implementation of professional development programming.
  • Supports programs in other capacities, as needed.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database programs, and presentation software as well as internet searches.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including an ability to organize data, tasks, and competing priorities, and to communicate clearly with other staff.

  • Ability to develop action plans in resolving and implementing organizational and operational problem goals.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students and the community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree required and relevant 1-3 years of experience, which can include internships or student work. 8 years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational qualifications.
