Our client, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the community, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their team in Baltimore, MD. This is an exceptional opportunity for a finance professional passionate about contributing to a meaningful mission and cause. The Controller will be responsible for enforcing financial and internal controls, continuously improving processes for greater efficiency, and managing risk, tax compliance, budgeting, banking, and audits, while also building the internal infrastructure of the team! The Controller will work collaboratively with the team, senior leaders, and partners to ensure compliance with GAAP standards and state, local, and federal laws. The Controller, as a member of the Executive leadership team, will report to the President/CEO, and interact with the Board of Directors to serve as a liaison to the board's Finance Committee.

Controller Responsibilities:

  • As the Controller, you will oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for our client.
  • Manage and supervise accounting staff, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial operations.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements, analyze financial data, and provide strategic recommendations to the executive team and board of directors.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage investments, and maintain relationships with financial institutions.
  • Manage grant and donor receivables and reports.
  • Prepare, and manage sub-contracts and sub-grant awards, including training of sub-grantees to ensure compliance with federal grant requirements.
  • Manage organizational insurance policies.

Controller Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8-10 years of applicable accounting experience
  • 5+years NFP experience
  • Minimum of 2+ years of supervisory experience leading or managing a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, procedures, and standards, including a strong understanding of 501(c)3 accounting rules, 990s, annual audits, federal audits, and other non-profit-related accounting best practices.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and monthly close process.
  • SAGE Intacct a plus!
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical abilities.
