Job description

Non-exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; full-benefits

This clerical position involves a significant amount of public contact, while performing varied duties that are highly specialized within the Permits and Inspections Department.

These duties will include, but are not limited to, the primary preparation of building, electrical, gaming (gambling) and plumbing permit applications for distribution to the proper destination. Direction may be received from Senior Permits Specialist; supervision is received from the Manager of Permitting Services and/or the Assistant Director of Permits and Inspections.

Answer questions and assist callers and visitors with information concerning all aspects of department operations and refer to other staff members as appropriateProcess permits through the computerized system for all permit activity assigned to this agency, including detailed question-and-answer exchange with homeowners, contractors and others while completing data entry fieldsDetermine and collect fees for various permits and keep an accounting of fees collectedResearch historical permit data for Certificate of Occupancy responsesDistribute all forms of materials to proper approving agencies and file materials in correct categoryMaintain and compile statistical information on permit activityMaintain operational, reference and fiscal files (using manual and computerized files and filing systems)Process daily postal and inter-office mailAssist with special projects and substitute for other staff members as neededPerform other related duties as required

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:

Previous work experience involving the permits and inspections processExperience working in a construction related fieldCustomer service work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, walk, reach and perform repetitive motions; and rarely lift up to 20 poundsWhile working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoorsAvailable for additional work hours as needed, which may include evening hours
