Job Summary

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs ( ADAA ) is the senior academic officer for a rapidly growing school of public health located in the beautiful mountain and lake region of East Tennessee. East Tennessee State University houses the oldest and largest school of public health both in Tennessee and in Central Appalachia. The

ADAA

position is a 12-month faculty position at the level of associate or full professor (tenured or tenure-eligible) at the time of the appointment. The position is responsible to the Dean of the College of Public Health for providing leadership; participating as a full member of the faculty, with all relevant duties, responsibilities, and benefits; providing services and support to varied constituencies (college, university, outside communities, associations) and enhancing professional and personal development.

The

ADAA

works collaboratively with the Dean and the College Leadership Council to:

Provide leadership for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs in the College of Public Health;Develop a collaborative well-articulated, strategic vision for the future growth, expansion, and improvement of the academic programs in the College;Build partnerships both within and outside the University to help to nurture existing academic programs and create new academic offerings, including inter-professional and cross-disciplinary programs, that are career-relevant and nationally competitive;Assure appropriate accreditation for the College and the component programs;Support the college s commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment that is personally and professionally rewarding for faculty, staff, and students;Help to orient and mentor junior faculty;Assure that all academic processes and procedures are followed;Represent the Dean at appropriate venues within the University, community, and nationally;Represent the college in the Academic Affairs section of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health ( ASPPH );Engage in scholarly activity that is appropriate for the discipline;Participate fully in all aspects of the leadership of the College;Bring creativity, energy, and dedication to providing students an exceptional educational experience in a world-class environment.The value of employment at

Terminal degree in public health or related field (e.g., PhD, DrPH, ScD, DSc, MD, etc.) with at least 7 years experience in higher education;Experience leading academic programs at a school or program of public health, or complementary field;Achievement in teaching, research, and service commensurate with tenure and appointment at a rank of Associate or Full Professor;Demonstrated experience advancing student success at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels;Demonstrated experience in faculty development and mentorship for teaching, research, and service;Demonstrated leadership ability;History of successful extramurally funded research and publications;Effective communication skills as consistent with the leadership role.Preferred Qualifications
