Mid-Level Marine Operational Engineer

Job description

Sayres, a renowned leader in defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Senior-Level Marine Operational Engineer with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in JPAS in Washington, DC. This position may offer remote and/or hybrid work arrangements based on customer discretion.

Responsibilities:

As a Mid-Level Marine Operational Engineer supporting the shipbuilding industry, you will play a vital role in providing engineering and technical support for various shipbuilding activities. In addition to the mentioned responsibilities, the following are additional duties that could be required:

1. Shipyard Coordination: Collaborate with shipyard personnel to ensure smooth execution of design and construction activities, coordinating schedules and resource allocation.

2. Material Procurement: Work with procurement teams to source and select appropriate materials and equipment for shipbuilding projects, considering cost-effectiveness and quality.

3. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure ship designs and systems adhere to relevant maritime regulations and standards, including safety, environmental, and operational requirements.

4. Systems Integration: Facilitate the integration of various ship systems, such as mechanical, electrical, and electronic components, to achieve seamless operation.

5. Ship Performance Analysis: Conduct performance analysis of ship systems and components to optimize efficiency and reliability during operations.

6. Sustainability Initiatives: Explore and implement sustainable engineering practices in ship design and construction, promoting environmental responsibility.

7. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Perform risk assessments for shipbuilding projects and propose mitigation strategies to address potential challenges.

8. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization in shipbuilding practices.

9. Lifecycle Support: Provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of ships, including maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.

Preferred Specialization:

- A minimum of 5+ years of sailing or port engineering experience, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
- Familiarity with Navy procedures and Policies, including the DoD 5000 process.
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Military Sealift Command procedures and processes.
- Ship Operations and/or shipboard testing expertise.
- Supervisory experience, overseeing and guiding project teams.
- Effective communication skills to interact with Program Management.

Minimum Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

- General Education Development (GED) or equivalent.
- Unlimited Horsepower Chief Engineers License, Active or Inactive.
- A minimum of 5-14 years of experience in marine or navy shipbuilding or repair, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
- Active Secret Clearance verifiable in DISS/JPAS.
- A minimum of 5+ years of sailing or port engineering experience, Government technical management, or Industry business management.

Preferred Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

- Bachelor's of Science in Marine Engineering or Transportation.
- A minimum of 10+ years of sailing or port engineering experience, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
- Possession of an Unlimited Active Horsepower Chief Engineers License.
