Summary of the group:

In Analytical Sciences in Gaithersburg, MD youll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients lives. Were constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. Were pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways across key therapeutic areas including oncology, respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, and infection and vaccines. And were industry-leading in immunology, protein engineering and translational science. Main Duties & Responsibilities:

In this role, the Scientist/Senior Scientist will develop and supervise method development and testing in support of product characterization, CQA assessment, and process development. They will be responsible for providing high quality data to support the characterization of biopharmaceuticals and aid in drafting of CMC documents for regulatory submissions. For the senior scientist position, there will be additional emphasis on developing product characterization methods, informing our development strategy, and mentoring junior scientists.

Support protein therapeutics characterization using various biochemical and biophysical techniques, especially mass spectrometry-based methods (for example, peptide mapping for PTM quantitation, disulfide bond mapping, and intact mass analysis).
Maintain laboratory instrumentation and coordinate and supervise user training and instrument service
Support pre- and post-IND regulatory submission by authoring and review of analytical sections
Supervise and mentor junior scientists

Education & Experience Requirements:

Scientist: Bachelors degree with 5+ years or Masters degree with 2+ years
Senior Scientist: Bachelors degree with 10+ years or Masters degree with 8+ years or PhD with 0+ years of related experience in industry or academia.

Required Skills:

In-depth knowledge in biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins
Experience with mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, peptide mapping, disulfide bond mapping, intact mass analysis)
Experience with one or more of the following analytical techniques: liquid chromatography (SEC, IEC), capillary electrophoresis (CGE, CE-SDS), capillary isoelectric focusing (cIEF)
Ability to work in a highly matrixed structure and to interface and share ownership of projects with different groups within research and development

Desired Skills:

Experience with large molecule development in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
Experience with authoring of CMC documents for regulatory submissions
Experience operating and developing automated sample preparation or analysis methods
Experience in developing internal tools and machine learning in R/Python
Experience with computational structural biology techniques such as structure prediction, docking, and molecular dynamics
