Position Details:

Position Emphasis: This position supports the NEA strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing day-to-day support of NEA's Human Resources Information System, Workday, while serving as the technical liaison for Benefits and Time Tracking operations.

Position Summary:
  • The incumbent will serve as the technical point of contact for designated functional areas, this role will assist cross functional teams in ensuring data integrity, conducts tests for semi-complex system changes, drafts reports, and analyzes data flows to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Additionally, this role acts as a liaison between end users, leadership, and benefits vendors, addressing HRIS system issues and overseeing related projects. In collaboration with other HRIS resources, configures, tests, and deploys Workday HRIS related features and serves as a technical point of contact for Benefits and Time Tracking modules.
  • Develops general knowledge and understanding of NEA's Workday configuration across all modules to provide broader support when needed. Modules include but are not limited to HCM, Benefits, Security, Absence, Talent, Recruiting, Time Tracking, Compensation, Payroll, and related integrations.
  • Consults with HR Business Partners and other stakeholders to reflect on business needs and discovering potential solutions to address them.
  • Analyzes business processes and feature enhancements to ensure optimal configuration, reduce downstream impact, and provide continuous improvement.
  • Performs ongoing operational activities of our benefits programs and projects, including managing vendor integrations.
  • Engages in compliance and reconciliation activities in partnership with internal and external vendors.
  • Provides assistance to staff through support and escalation of issues.
  • Participates in preparing for and executing year-end activities.
  • Consults with internal HRIS team or functional areas on potential future improvements.
  • Provides feedback and insights on potential projects for strategic planning.
  • Develops new test cases when needed and conduct testing to confirm feasibility, reduce downstream impact, and to identify the user experience.
  • Assists with the preparation of training materials, job aids, instructions, and training when needed.
  • Participates in the creation of Benefits communication campaigns, announcements, alerts, etc.


Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 4 years of Workday-specific experience required (including design, configuration, and testing). Proven experience with reporting and analytics tools. Functional understanding of core HR business terminology and practices. Other Requirements: Samples of work products may be required at time of interview.

Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential): Experience with Workday HCM Benefits and Time Tracking. Proven ability to collaborate with others especially when projects or activities intersect in different areas. Ability to demonstrate business acumen and be value focused. Solid written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to accurately collect information in order to understand and assess the business needs and situation. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and provide timely follow-up resolution. Capable of learning new software and technology and testing new concepts in a sandbox environment. Tier 2 (Significant): Experience with Workday Prism reporting/analytics. Strong organization skills and flexibility; able to change priorities to support business strategies. Proven ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines. Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of HR policies and procedures. Tier 3 (Desirable): Experience working for an association or membership organization. Experience working in a union environment.
