At Amazon Fresh Grocery, we are pioneering the next generation of customer services, offering ultra-fast delivery and in-store on fresh grocery, pantry staples, and household essentials.We are looking for a curious, customer obsessed, driven and creative individual to join the Amazon Fresh category management team. The Sr. Category Manager will have accountability for the business results of their product subcategories. The direct responsibilities will be to manage performance of the product portfolio including setting category strategy, expanding product selection and vendor base, developing promotional programs, and driving sales and margin improvements to create a best-in-class customer experience.The ideal candidate will have strong customer experience, business and product sense combined with solid understanding of technical concepts. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. High judgment, ability to influence, analytical talent, and exceptional communications are essential to success in this role.The candidate possesses experience in buying, marketing, and/or finance, with a track record of successful relationship management, strong analytical acumen, and experience generating and managing reporting and analysis. Great communication skills and understanding of Excel will be essential to your success. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who will take ownership of projects and business problems to deliver a successful result.Our environment is fast-paced, and requires someone who is flexible, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working with multiple teams, vendors, partners, and management.Location for this position can be New York, NY, or Arlington, VA, with New York preferred.Key job responsibilitiesOwn the P&L for category/subcategory with a focus on improving profitability through supply chain optimization and selection mixIdentify new approaches for growing the business, driving strategic initiatives to increase category awareness, and creating processes to better manage the performance of the category over the long term.Adept at identifying industry trends that are relevant to product selection and customer experience as well as maximizing online and instore sell-thru and reducing waste.Manage assortment and promotions strategy for category/subcategory leveraging data including customer feedback, industry data, and/or supplier feedback.May negotiate with suppliers for improved product and operating costs.Engage directly with multiple internal teams to optimize the assortment for key vendors and brandsUtilize a wide range of skills and work across major functional areas such as category management, pricing, inventory management, operations, marketing, and finance to drive the performance of strategic vendor partners at AmazonA day in the lifeBe the 'business owner' for your categories, vendors and regions, working autonomously and possessing a complete understanding of internal and external variables that impact your vendorsCoordinate with cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external partners, while meeting tight deadlines.Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability goals for your category.Analyze weekly and monthly performance metrics and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders to hit financial targetsProvide input for your category regarding promotional activity, space allocation, pricing, productivity analysis, and forecasting.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Arlington, VA, USA | New York, NY, USABasic Qualifications5+ years of with Excel experienceBachelor's degree, or 5+ years of professional or military experience5+ years of relevant experience in buying, retail planning or merchandizingExperience using data and metrics to drive improvementsExperience with business analysis and P&L managementStrong written and oral communication skills, ability to Earn Trust and articulate complex ideas effectivelyStrong business judgment and pragmatic approach to delivering resultsStrong analytical abilities and problem-solving skillsOperates as a team player, likes to have fun at work, and has a positive attitudePreferred QualificationsExperience using data to influence business decisionsExperience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teamsMBA or Master's degree in equivalent field7+ years of relevant experience in buying, retail planning or merchandizingAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
