Volunteers of America(VOA) is a faith-based, nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. VOA is seeking an Intern to be an integral part of the Moral Injury department. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn about moral injury and recovery strategies, grow in communications and messaging skills and develop program development and administration skills. The person in this role must be flexible, self-directed and able to work collaboratively in teams. Ideal candidates must have excellent writing and communication skills, good time management, self-awareness and ability to ask for support and willingness to learn new areas for research.

Remote Work Schedules

The internship is unpaid, however, a stipend is provided

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist Shay Center staff with assessing, preparing and implementing changes for its online moral injury certificate program and provide logistical support for related efforts
  • Assist in updating and maintaining moral injury online resources, including adding the latest research, articles and services to the Shay Center website
  • Conduct research on relevant topics for the Shay Center that will strengthen programs and strategic approaches, such as best practices in online education, technology/platform supports, peer support and more
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, initiatives and directions for offering moral injury education, training and messaging
  • Help maintain and expand Shay Center's social media presence and engagement on Facebook and virtual learning communities
  • Support creating Shay Center assets for programs and initiatives, including writing content, editing documents and streamlining processes
  • Support Shay Center initiatives and special projects, as needed

Physical Capabilities:

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Religion or related fields in mental health, chaplaincy or social services; graduate or doctoral students preferred
  • Knowledge and skills in program administration and assessment, online platforms use and educational practices, written and verbal communications, interpersonal and administrative skills and critical analysis
