Position Summary

The City of Manassas is looking for a capable and grounded candidate who can handle responsibilities in the following, but not limited to, areas:

1) DC & AC electronic and electrical principles
2) SCADA, automation, instrumentation, feedback and control
3) Protective Relaying
4) Telecommunications (copper & fiber)
5) Computer (hardware & software)
6) Data Networking (administration, TCP/ IP, CISCO)
7) Digital electronic theory (logic gates) - RF
8) Two-Way Radio technology (conventional and trunking

The hiring range for this position is: $66,976.00 - $92,102.40, DOQ

Essential Job Functions

Maintains feedback and control elements associated with the vital processes in the electric substations, electric transmission & distribution system, electric generation sites, water filtration plant, water distribution system, and sewer system. Elements of these systems include RTUs, protective relays, PLCs, remote I/Os, and metering and instrumentation devices that provide feedback of vital parameters (ex: voltage, current, fuel level, water level, water flow, etc.).

Maintains AMI system associated with electric and water systems.

Operates and monitors generators during load management and generator runs.

Maintains security devices such as door alarms, camera and DVR systems, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and emergency shutdown systems.

Maintains laptops and PCs, Windows Operating Systems, CISCO Internetworking devices, Microsoft Office Suite and various software applications.

Provides technical support to SCADA computer users.

Maintains two-way radio systems for public safety and utility users - Facilitate encrypted radio communications for select public safety groups - Work with technical and non-technical representatives from other local governments in the Washington DC metro region for interoperability purposes.
Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs fiber optic cable network - Splice fiber optic cable - Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs copper cabling for DC circuits, AC circuits, phone, and Ethernet.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications

Two-year certificate from technical school or two-year college degree in related field
Two years' experience in electrical work

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this job may be considered.
Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.

This position also requires the candidate to be on-call in a rotation and to respond to emergency situations concerning communications and control systems. The successful candidate must complete the Level I thru Level IV of the City of Manassas Technician Certification Program.
