ODNR owns and manages state parks, state forests, state nature preserves and wildlife areas. We license all hunting, fishing and watercraft; oversee and permit all mineral extraction, monitor dam safety, manage water resources and serve as the second largest Law Enforcement presence in the State of Ohio.

We are accepting applications for a Mine Safety Inspector 1 within the Division of Mineral Resources Management, headquartered at Fountain Square, assigned to Franklin county. The address is 2045 Morse Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229. To learn more about the Division of Mineral Resources Management

What you will do

Responsible for inspecting all surface mines and related operations in assigned work area for compliance with state laws (e.g., examines mining equipment for proper function & maintenance;

Observes pit, hi-walls and haulage ways; observes safety procedures for storage, conveyance and handling of explosives and detonators); checks condition of electrical circuits and equipment;

Checks for presence of certified supervisory personnel, proper mining permits, appropriate safety measures, communications, presence of first-aid and rescue equipment in or near each pit and procedures are posted to obtain emergency medical attention;

Investigates mining accidents including fatalities to determine adequacy of safety precautions, training, procedures or negligence of mine operators and/or employees; investigates and determines the validity of mine workers complaints concerning working conditions;

Prepares reports on the results of all surface mine inspections and worker complaints; prepares orders to require compliance with any pertinent mining provisions of state rules and regulations, establishes a time frame to bring violations into compliance;

Conducts with safety training classes; assists in mine rescue operations and remains on site until relieved by mine rescue personnel and completes related reports.

Letter of Certification from Division of Mineral Resources Management per Section 1561.11, 1561.12 & 1561.13 of Revised Code for surface mine foreperson & deputy mine inspector of surface mines; 6 yrs. exp. in mining to include 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in surface mines in Ohio; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in mine inspection procedures & accident investigation techniques; valid driver's license.
