Job Description Summary:
The Office of Animal Research (OAR) supports the highest standards of humane care and use of laboratory animals for research and teaching purposes and assures compliance with university and federal guidelines.
This position provides routine care over a group of experimental animals in the animal research facility. The core responsibilities of this role are to feed the animals, to maintain animal space and lab equipment, and to ensure compliance with university, state and federal regulations. This position also maintains and conducts a daily inventory of animals, observes and monitors their general health, and reports and records abnormalities. This role will prepare and provide animals with meals and water according to their specific dietary requirements, as directed, and will screen and process incoming animals in accordance with regulations. This position may assist in performing euthanasia and perform other special diagnostic tests.
The Animal Technician provides routine care over a group (or groups) of experimental animals in the Animal Research Facility, to include interacting with faculty, staff and students concerning the facility and experimental animals.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
