Assistant General Manager, Cafe Riggs

Job description

Riggs Washington DC sits on the iconic downtown corner of Penn Quarter's 9th and F Street in a historic building once home to Riggs National Bank. Each of the Hotel's 181 guest rooms offers a playful nod to the building's legacy. Riggs is home to the all-occasion European brasserie-inspired restaurant Caf Riggs, as well as Silver Lyan - a subterranean bar from the internationally acclaimed Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr Lyan.

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant General Manager to lead our dynamic team and oversee the operations of our bustling restaurant. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, a passion for delivering exceptional customer experiences, and a deep understanding of restaurant management, beverage service, and staff supervision.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Team Leadership:

Provide effective leadership, training, and guidance to restaurant staff, fostering a positive and motivated work environment.Assign duties, set performance expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations for all team members.Collaborate with GM to implement and maintain efficient operational procedures.Promote teamwork, encourage open communication, and address any staff concerns or conflicts in a timely and constructive manner.

Operational Excellence:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the space, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene standards.Develop and implement standard operating procedures for efficient operations, including opening and closing procedures, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.Manage inventory levels and place orders for supplies, beverages, and ingredients.

Guest Service:

Create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for patrons, consistently delivering exceptional customer service.Monitor customer feedback and respond promptly to any concerns or suggestions, taking appropriate actions to enhance the overall customer experience.Train staff to provide knowledgeable recommendations on beverages and ensure customers' preferences and dietary requirements are met.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Restaurant Manager or relevant supervisory role in the hospitality industry.Strong knowledge of F&B trends and industry best practices.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff and customers.Ability to remain composed under pressure, solve problems efficiently, and handle customer complaints professionally.Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.Leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure smooth operations and accurate record-keeping.Understanding of local alcohol regulations, health codes, and safety standards.Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or a related field is a plus.Minimum of 4 years of experience in restaurant management or a related role.TIPS, ABRA, Food Handler certification is desirable.
