About The Position:

The Purpose of the School Director is to ensure Achievement Prep achieves exceptional academic results. The School Director will lead the campus based leadership to Tier 1 status. The School Director will partner with the Senior Leadership team to create a school community for our scholars and families with love at the core; intentionally partnering with families; and prioritizing the development, retention, and success of our Platinum Teachers. As School Director, you will have opportunities to weigh in on key organizational decisions with our Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities of the Principal

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for:

Visioning & Leadership
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director and work closely with other members of the senior leadership team to craft overall organizational strategy, priorities, and goals, with specific ownership of teaching and learning objectives
  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership through active involvement in all programs and services, developing broad and deep knowledge of the education sector and of Achievement Prep schools
  • Engage in visioning and planning work with network leadership to ensure continuous refinement of the Achievement Prep Way
  • Provide instructional program leadership, with specific responsibility for planning, implementation, assessment and improvement across all schools
  • Develop and implement, in partnership with the Director of People, rigorous talent management strategies, ensuring that all Achievement Prep schools are staffed with highly effective teachers and leaders
  • Ensure that teaching and learning standards are aligned to national and state standards and support ongoing success for scholars
  • Identify and implement innovative, disciplined, and continuously improving processes and systems for teaching and learning
  • Hold teams accountable to operating and measuring results under established processes, systems, and metrics
  • Oversee the evaluation of assessment tools on a regular and ongoing basis
  • Implement data-driven decision-making practices at the network and school levels
  • Manage the use of data systems and the disaggregation of school data sets
  • Ensure that data is in service to learning and is accessible to teachers, parents, and scholars
  • Observe and evaluate teaching and learning efforts regularly through frequent school walkthroughs alongside school leaders
  • Represent the organization routinely to key stakeholders and partners, including external parties, investors, foundations, auditors, public officials and board members, instilling confidence among these constituents
Oversight of Academic Programming
  • Direct the research, selection, development, and implementation of instructional materials, methods, programs, and assessments to ensure PK3 - 8 vertical alignment, alignment to Common Core Standards, and high scholar achievement
  • Oversee creation of the framework for reviewing and analyzing all scholar academic data
  • Drive the implementation effective internal and external assessment systems to monitor academic programming and academic progress of scholars throughout the year
  • Review assessment tools on a regular basis to ensure they are aligned with instructional design and provide information needed for schools to most effectively serve our scholars
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings, such as scholar data, to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness
  • Regularly observe and evaluate scholar work and progress through classroom walkthroughs and observations
  • Work with school leaders in identifying and acquiring appropriate program resources to ensure that curricula are scholar-focused and aligned with the schools mission, core values, ethos, academic standards, and strategic priorities
Intervention Oversight
  • Build and oversee a school-wide approach to individualized and small-group remediation and acceleration with a foundation in Results: an intervention block for all elementary school and middle school Foundation Academy scholars
  • Champion a culture amongst instructional staff and leadership of data-driven re-teaching of content in an effort to ensure all scholars master the standards
  • Utilize data collected through a myriad of sources (formal and informal assessments) to help instructional leaders and staff identify and group scholars in need of additional supports
  • Direct the planning of small-group and individualized instruction for remediation and acceleration
  • Monitor and modify all intervention programming for general education scholars based on data and evaluation
Professional Development
  • Work through the instructional coaches (ICs) to ensure the development of campus-based instructional leaders through the coordination of opportunities including, but not limited to: internal professional development; external professional development; and leader-to leader collaboration
  • Collaborate with the ICs to provide coaching, feedback, and support of instructional leaders: standards, content knowledge, instruction, teacher coaching
  • Plan and lead meetings and retreats for campus- and network-based academic leaders
  • Perform instructional observations alongside campus-based leadership in order to identify school-level best practices and deliver feedback to facilitate effective instruction
  • Facilitate collaboration of instructional leaders across schools
  • Develop and facilitate professional development and coaching necessary for teachers, deans and principals to effectively implement the use of data to drive improved instruction and increased scholar achievement
  • Lead Summer Institute (pre-service for all staff) planning and implementation
  • Collaborate with People Team to develop and implement a robust mid-year orientation process for instructional staff
"Wind In The Sails" Support for Schools
  • Be on campus from at least 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily
  • Provide leadership to all staff and scholars in establishing a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture
  • Participate regularly in projects and initiatives that integrate Network Office staff into schools
  • Support "all-hands-on-deck" times for schools: beginning of school year, standardized testing, etc.
  • Maintain a culture centered on our ethos and core values of Determination, Respect, Enthusiasm, Accountability, and Mastery
  • Exhibit an unwavering commitment to high academic achievement and character development in our scholars
  • Receive continuous feedback from peers and school leaders on your practice and be expected to give the same
  • Manage time, tasks, deadlines and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment and hold others accountable for the same
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Masters degree in education, educational leadership, organizational leadership, or other aligned discipline (preferred)
  • 3 to 5 years prior experience as a successful urban school leaders
  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility in education and educational leadership
  • 5+ years of management experience with a demonstrated track record of supporting the improvement of others' performance
Compensation & Benefits

Salary full time exempt. Range $120,000 - $140,000, commensurate with experience.
