**Description**

Leidos is seeking a **Communications** **Writer/Editor** to support our customer, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), which is part of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). BJS is the primary statistical agency of DOJ. The mission of BJS is to collect, analyze, publish, and disseminate information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government.

As part of Leidos Communications Support Services team, you will work with an experienced group of communications professionals dedicated to supporting our government clients. Please note: This is a full-time, remote position with core office hours based on Eastern Time.

BJS requires a **Writer/Editor** with a high attention to detail to substantively edit, copy edit, and proofread a range of statistical material in various formats to include web products; write statistical and other related content; perform multiple quality control checks under tight deadlines to ensure accuracy and consistency; and provide other communications support tasks, as needed.

The **Writer/Editor** reviews and edits BJS publications (reports and other products) for completeness, clarity, conciseness, and correctness and for alignment with the BJS Style Guide. This person also copyedits and proofs BJS publications for consistency with the OJP Branding Guide, Federal Plain Language Guidelines, and the AP Stylebook.

**Responsibilities include:**

+ Substantively edit statistical reports and other products to be clear, concise, correct, and complete for intended audience.

+ Copy editing and proofreading reports to comply with the BJS Style Guide and OJP Branding Guide.

+ Coordinating changes to the documents from the authors, management, other editors, and designers.

+ Ensuring reports comply with agency policies regarding nonpartisanship, objectivity, balance, appropriateness in tone, and data confidentiality.

+ Working directly with the author on recommendations to reorganize or rewrite documents.

+ Providing quality control of products throughout the development process.

+ Writing press releases and summaries of statistical reports.

+ Editing marketing emails and social media posts to promote statistical findings.

+ Using Adobe Acrobat Pro to prepare 508-compliant PDFs.

**Minimum Requirements:**

+ At least three (3) years of directly relevant work experience in editing statistical reports and other documents related to statistical and/or social science topics.

+ Ability to provide examples of published works, written or edited.

+ Ability to create content for a variety of media, including press releases, web content, social media, and email communications.

+ Excellent attention to detail, good organizational skills, very strong proofreading abilities.

+ Ability to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines.

+ Excellent writing and editing skills, including advanced knowledge of grammar and ability to interpret and apply style guidelines.

+ Experience writing and editing material related to crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, judicial system, etc.

+ Flexibility to adapt to changing/evolving client needs.

+ Proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

**Education:** Bachelor s degree in related field (e.g., English, Communications, Journalism).

**Location:** This is a remote position.

**Security Clearance:** Candidates must have the ability to acquire a Public Trust clearance.

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000

**Pay Range:**

Pay Range $49,400.00 - $89,300.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
